Charles Scott Duffer, born in Cumberland County VA moved with his
family at a young age to Charlotte County. He enlisted March 29, 1813
and served 6 months in Company "D", 6th Artillery under command of
Capt. John D. Richardson of the Regiment of Virginia Militia, stationed on
Crany Island, commanded by Lieut. Col. Thomas Read Jr. He received pay
of $8.00 per month and was discharged 6 Oct. 1813 at Norfolk VA.
On 25 July 1814 he married Cecelia Meadows, daughter of Jeremiah
Meadows in Prince Edward County, VA. In 1820 he lived in Henry County,
KY. By 1830 he had moved to Sullivan County, IN where he lived until his
death on 23 Mar. 1870. His first wife, Cecelia, died 26 Mar. 1846 and on
28 Jan. 1849 he married Elizabeth Booth Hannah. She died 14 Feb. 1898.
They are buried in the Mann-Turman Prairie Cemetary located West of
Graysville, IN.
